I Miss You
March 15TH – 11TH April 2023
Adjei Tawiah’s solo exhibition I Miss Us, curated by Chantel Akworkor Thompson at Opera Gallery New York, explored the emotional journey that follows the end of a relationship. The show reflected on how love can continue to live on in memory, even after two people have gone their separate ways. Through a series of intimate portraits, Tawiah captured the sadness, nostalgia, and quiet strength that come with letting go. His work invites viewers to reflect on what remains after love is lost and how we carry those feelings forward. Known for using nylon sponge, a material commonly used for bathing in Ghana, Tawiah brings texture and meaning to his pieces. In this exhibition, the sponge symbolized cleansing and healing, suggesting that even in pain, there is the possibility of renewal.
